Unbranched shrub with massive stem. New stems arise subterraneously from the rootstock of the parent stem. Leaf-rosette very large. Leaves dark green, red-hedged, often ondulate at margins, oblong-spathulate. Inflorescence very large, leafy, conical. Flowers yellow, usually 10-parted.
